Relive the most surreal day in British railway history, 2nd January 1982, when the "Deltic Scotsman Farewell" railtour marked the end of Deltic service with British Rail.

These recordings capture both lineside and on-train sounds, and even starting up in Finsbury Park depot in the morning. Ending with the amazing crowd scenes at Kings Cross after the tour ended, but the emotions were running very high!

A mixture of stereo recordings and mono recordings digitally enhanced with an added pseudo-stereo effect.

Running time 80 minutes

From starting up 55015 in Finsbury Park Depot in the early morning, to the final light engine run of 55022 out of Kings Cross at night.

Highlights include:

- 55015 passing Finsbury Park depot (from the lineside).

- 55022 roaring away from Edinburgh, on-train.

- 55022 signal-checked at Peterborough, on-train.

- Triumphant arrival at "The Cross", on-train.

- Crowd chanting, horns blasting and engines repeatedly starting...

- 55022's final light engine departure from Kings Cross, with the crowd holding onto it!

Recordings by John Bachelor, Bob Mullins, Ian Strange and David Turner. Restored and published by Ian Strange.
